About FUTUREd

FUTUREd: Future Trends in University Research and Education is a peer-reviewed academic journal that explores how higher education is evolving in response to technological, social, and pedagogical change.

The journal was created out of a simple idea: there should be a space where educators and researchers can openly share how teaching and learning are changing, and what those changes mean in real classrooms and institutions. As tools like artificial intelligence and digital platforms become more common, the conversation around education is also becoming more complex. FUTUREd aims to support that conversation in a thoughtful and accessible way.

What We Focus On

FUTUREd brings together work from different disciplines and educational contexts. We are interested in both research and practice, especially when they connect clearly to real teaching and learning situations.

Topics include:

  • The use of artificial intelligence and technology in education
  • Digital and hybrid teaching approaches
  • Innovations in language learning and multilingual education
  • Questions of ethics, equity, and access
  • Changes in curriculum, assessment, and institutional strategy

We especially welcome perspectives from diverse cultural contexts, including work coming from Asia and other rapidly changing educational environments.

Our Mission

Our goal is to create a journal that is:

  • Relevant to current challenges in education
  • Accessible to a wide audience, not only specialists
  • Inclusive of different perspectives and contexts
  • Practical, while still maintaining academic rigor

We hope FUTUREd can support both new ideas and honest reflection about what is working — and what is not — in education today.

Who the Journal Is For

FUTUREd is intended for a broad audience, including:

  • University faculty and instructors
  • Researchers in education, AI in education, and learning sciences
  • Instructional designers and educational technologists
  • Academic administrators and policymakers
  • Graduate students and early-career researchers

We also value contributions from educators working outside universities when their work connects to higher education.

How We Work

All submissions go through a double-blind peer review process to ensure fairness and quality.

FUTUREd is an open access journal, which means that all articles are freely available online. We believe that research should be easy to access and share, especially in a field that directly affects teaching and learning worldwide.

Looking Forward

FUTUREd is still developing, but the long-term aim is to grow into a space where educators from different countries and disciplines can continue discussing how education is changing.

We hope the journal becomes more than just a publication. Ideally, it will also be a place where ideas are exchanged, collaborations begin, and new approaches to teaching and learning can take shape.
